The Supreme Court will hear today a batch of petitions seeking to cancel the NEET-UG 24 exam held on May 5.

Yesterday, the Centre and the NTA filed affidavits pursuant to the directions passed by the Supreme Court ton July 8.

The Centre stated that there are no indications of any mass malpractice in the exam, as per the data analytics study done by the experts of the IIT Madras.

The NTA stated that the videos showing the leakage of the NEET papers in Telegram groups are fake. The Centre and the NTA reiterated their stand that the sanctity of the entire exam has not been compromised so as to warrant a re-test.

On the last hearing date (July 8), a bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud sought the responses of the Union/NTA on the extent of the paper leak and possible segregation of the wrongdoers from others. The Court said that if the sanctity of the entire exam has been affected and it was impossible to seperate the beneficiaries of fraud from the honest candidates, then a re-test may be necessary. The Court also said that the re-test would be the last option, considering the impact on nearly 24 lakh students.

The cases are listed as item no.43 before the bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. The bench commences sitting at 10.30 AM.
