The Supreme Court on Tuesday (July 9) issued notice in a petition seeking efficient E-filing facilities at the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC)and State Commissions. The Court also requested NCDRC President, Justice AP Sahi to assist the Court through online presence on the next hearing.
The counsel for the petitioner stated that it is a mandatory requirement to physically file the matters even after E-filing at NCDRC. Also, several state commissions weren't religiously following the E-filing procedures.
The bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued notice in the petition and requested the virtual assistance of NCDRC President, Justice AP Shahi on the same. The Court clarified that the presence of Justice Shahi is sought only for enhanced inputs on the administrative front.
“Since the issues raised by the petitioner relate to the broader aspects of access to justice to the consumer fora, we would request Hon'ble Justice AP Sahi, President of the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission to interact with Court at video conferencing.
We clarify that while making this request, the purpose of making the above suggestion is not to implicate any adversarial role to the President of NCDRC.”
Matter will now be heard on July 19.
